Diamond Resorts Invitational 2018

The 2018 Diamond Resorts Invitational purse is actually two purses combined at $1.2 million, with the professional winner’s share coming in at $125,000 from the $750,000 purse — more than the standard 18 percent payout according to the PGA Tour’s prize money distribution chart. The celebrity purse is set at $500,000, with the winner’s share set at $100,000.

The Diamond Resorts Invitational tees off Friday morning from Orlando, where a mix of celebrities, athletes, LPGA Stars, and Champions Tour stars will mix it up over three days.

The event started more than five years ago and has undergone some different format changes, with the addition of the Champions Tour players joining the field. There will be two separate purses on the line in concurrent contests and another fat check raised for the Florida Hospital for Children.

It’s a nice midday event in January, when the PGA Tour is not really in full swing yet and a celebrity event like this can get some traction. It’s a solid field with a Champions Tour player in every single group, and it’s played at Tranquilo Golf Club. Here’s why and how to watch over the next three days.

The PGA Tour is in Mexico this week for its first of two stops south of the border on the schedule, the OHL Classic at Mayakoba, which has been played since 2007 at El Camaleon Golf Club in Playa Del Carmen, south of Cancun. For its first six years, the OHL Classic was an opposite-field event to the WGC Match Play in December, but became a full FedEx Cup points event in 2013 and was moved to November. It’s the seventh of eight events as part of the PGA Tour’s fall series.

Rickie Fowler headlines a solid mid-November field in Mexico this week for the OHL Classic at Mayakoba. Fowler is joined by Patrick Reed, Gary Woodland, Zach Johnson and Bryson DeChambeau. The views will be terrific, too, as the golfers will tee it up in Playa del Carmen where the weather seemingly never turns bad and the course looks incredible.
